When I wrote it, I thought it was fiction - based on a similar bit of family legend. Several years later I ran across this account of actual events, not like my family history, and - of all places - in the untidy archives of the Austin Museum Of Pop Culture. My story was called "Lightening and Herbs". I'll have to find it.
But it was nothing...just a yarn. This is an incredible essay by an enlightened mind, with a wounded heart. I read that section just because I thought I might find it useful in my work with others.

Well, it reminded me very much of this entry. The primary difference between a Shaman's experience setting him apart for healing and spiritual leadership is that his is a vision-dream, whereas my "redemption" experience was real-life, and yet rife with mystical images.

For me, regarding my own experience, it is the signature of the Author of my own soul.

See: Stanislav Grof’s own blog.cregilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10898237675364895954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-125648389835548147.post-51613340902111745352010-04-27T14:10:54.122-05:002010-04-27T14:10:54.122-05:00Alan Graham, above, is the founder of Mobile Loave...Alan Graham, above, is the founder of Mobile Loaves & Fishes in Austin, a mobile food service for the homeless: http://www.mlfnow.org

Today, MLF kicked off a homeless awareness project, and here is the key request I have...

The primary call to action is to text “MLF” to 20222 (to donate $10) and to visit www.iamheremlf.org. The vast majority of images show a Priest standing at the Altar. That is NOT what the phrase means!

Alter-Christus, another Christ, refers to the priest when he is acting as another Christ -- that is, Christ being present in the action of the Priest-- made real-- not limited to the sacramental-- not even really related to the sacrament of the Altar in any way.

Goodness! What did all of those priests posting those Paten & Chalice images with the term do while in seminary? I fear such men believe their service as the alter-Christus begins and ends with the Mass. I fear, because they believe it, it is probably so.cregilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10898237675364895954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-125648389835548147.post-52627696524357401032010-02-08T18:53:54.054-06:002010-02-08T18:53:54.054-06:00I would ask what happened on page 100, but suppose...I would ask what happened on page 100, but suppose I would rather read it myself if you recommend.

I think I am right that Willa Cather was inspired to write Death Comes for the Archbishop after seeing a print of this very image.

Like sitting in the Alamo listing to Soldier's Joy after hearing Èl Degüello.cregilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10898237675364895954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-125648389835548147.post-41198076809721340292010-02-07T09:41:03.347-06:002010-02-07T09:41:03.347-06:00Reminds of getting to page 100 of Dan Simmons'...Reminds of getting to page 100 of Dan Simmons' Hyperion.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16129529328341922436noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-125648389835548147.post-58954076572665442272010-02-05T12:31:28.482-06:002010-02-05T12:31:28.482-06:00Yes, Merton, I believe you are correct.
